Areas of Responsibility:

  • Worship
    • feed the flock by inspired preaching and the proclamation of God’s inspired and inerrant word
    • lead praiseful and spiritually fulfilling worship services
    • administer communion 
    • baptize and/or dedicate members and non-members and their children
  • Spiritual Development
    • assist members and non-members in their individual spiritual development through education, counsel, and empowerment
    • teach God’s Word in and out of the pulpit
    • raise up God’s people into leadership and service of His church, equipping, empowering and supporting them in their God-given ministry 
    • be committed to personal regular accountability with the Elders and members
  • Ministry and Church Growth
    • oversee the growth and development of vibrant, relevant, and spiritually age appropriate ministries for children, youth, adults, and older adults.
    • develop, encourage and promote vision among the church ministry leadership 
    • assist in the development and implementation of a program for community visibility, outreach and evangelism within the local community
  • Fellowship
    • regularly attend and, where needed, assist in the development, planning, and preparation of church events designed to promote fellowship and community evangelism
    • visit and minister to the Members and visitors of the church  
  • Pastoral
    • share in the regular visitation of members, non-members, and the sick and shut-ins of the congregation
    • visit people in the midst of crises (i.e., death, sickness, trauma, or other significant events), where pastoral care is required
    • counsel members and non-members or refer to Christian counselors within the community
    • conduct occasional services, weddings, funerals, and baptisms when called upon and such service brings glory to Christ
  • Shepherding
    • pray for the flock, the Elders and Deacons, and the church at large
    • preside over the ordination and installation of Elders
    • serve as a member and moderator of the Board of Elders and a member of the Leadership Team 
    • Maintain the proper emphasis upon outreach and discipleship
  • Personal
    • focus on his family’s welfare to insure that they are cared for spiritually, emotionally and physically  (1 Timothy 3:4,5)
    • take vacation and days off as permitted
    • diligently study God’s Word on a regular basis
    • pray often and grow in relationship with God
  • Other
    • maintains a full-time schedule with flexible working hours as determined by the needs of his ministry and the congregation
    • represent St. Paul’s Church to the community at large 

Position Qualifications:


  • a born-again man with clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a passion for the unsaved and service to His kingdom
  • his lifestyle should exhibit exemplary Christian character.  The Senior Pastor should be a man who exhibits the godly character qualities outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-4 and Acts 6:4
  • he should have a Master of Divinity Degree or equivalent from a recognized evangelical seminary or Bible College with doctrine similar to St. Paul’s
  • five years minimum experience preferred in full time pastoral ministry.
  • be in harmony with the doctrinal standards of this church
  • be ordained as a Pastor or equivalent, (either by a recognized church denomination with similar doctrinal position, or by congregational action)
  • be able to accurately interpret the Scriptures and communicate God’s Word clearly.

Description of Organization

St. Paul’s Church, a conservative, non-denominational reformational Christian church. Its ongoing mission statement is, “To Worship, Know and Proclaim Christ as Lord in our Community and Beyond.”  We believe in the inerrancy of the Bible.  We have a multi-generational congregation from varied denominational backgrounds with average worship attendance of approximately 35 people and are located in rural Baltimore County, MD, at the junction with Carroll County, MD and York County, PA.  We have a history of service to Christ in this community since 1849 in various capacities.  We are Elder-led, financially stable, and spiritually mature, with strong traditions of music, prayer and expository preaching.  The worship style is blended.
