Job Description:

The Pastor for Student Ministry / Ministry Director seeks to glorify God by leading NPC’s ministry of evangelism and discipleship to students from grade 6 through grade 12.



NPC values celebrating the gospel and pursues Christ–centered, expository preaching.  Teaching within student ministry will strive to be audience / context sensitive and consistent with this value.

  • Teach Sunday morning class regularly for either high school or middle school ministry, or related classes for adults and/or parents in Adult Education throughout the year. 
  • Teach (or supervise emerging teachers, see below) at weekly middle school and high school student meetings.
  • If applicable, preach in regular NPC rotation as directed by Senior Pastor.
  • Participate in weekly sermon preparation roundtable.


Student ministry leadership at NPC involves recruiting and leading a team of volunteers.

  • Lead student ministry leadership team comprised of volunteers and emerging student leaders.  
  • Identify, recruit, and train new volunteer leaders and student leadership.
  • Encourage emerging teachers (volunteers and students) and provide mentored opportunities for teachers to test teaching gifts. 


NPC values community. Grace motivated discipleship will be a hallmark of NPC student ministry.

  • Creates and maintains vibrant small group ministries for Middle and High School students.
  • Disciples students towards integrating into the broader worship life, ministry, and mission of NPC.
  • Conducts New Member / Communicant Class for Middle School and High School students on an annual basis.
  • Initiates discipleship ministry to parents (e.g., teaching about how the gospel applies to parenting; what parents need to know about student culture, etc.)
  • Counsels students and / or parents and refers to qualified professionals as needed.
  • Visits people in crises or significant events where pastoral care is required as part of NPC pastoral team.


NPC seeks to deploy members to love our city. 

  • Develops and conducts ministry of presence among students, teachers, coaches.  
  • Engages in ministry to and / or partnership with people in Northwest Columbus who serve the student population (teachers, coaches, Young Life, Young Life Capernaum).  
  • Conducts regular evangelistic events, discussions, presentations as part of an effort to love unchurched students in the northwest Columbus community. 
  • Fosters a mission / outreach mindset among NPC students that leads to local mission, participation in short term mission trips, etc.  


  • Communicates student ministry events and service opportunities regularly to parents and champions NPC student ministries to the entire congregation.
  • Accountable to plan and manage student ministry area of NPC budget as part of annual NPC ministry goals and budget planning process.
  • Participates in pastoral meetings, worship planning meetings, staff meetings and session meetings as directed.
  • Complies with NPC Social Media policy.
  • Ensures volunteers are trained on NPC’s Child Protection Policy.

Position Qualifications:


Education and Experience

Obtaining a graduate level degree from an accredited Graduate School of Theology or Seminary is expected. Degree candidates in programs willing to complete degrees by distance are encouraged to apply. 


  • Lives an exemplary, ethically sound life, complying with Scriptural and Confessional leadership qualifications.
  • Exhibits a philosophy of ministry that is Christ-centered, missional, and gospel-driven. 
  • Devotes time to spiritual, mental, and physical well-being through personal spiritual formation,  study and exercise. 
  • Maintains scheduled family time and personal free time, including weekly protected Sabbath and annual vacation periods.  
  • Has a vibrant, intimate, personal relationship with Jesus that demonstrates transparency and approachability.
  • Shepherds and cares lovingly for all people. 
  • Maintains a history of Christ-like peer, mentoring, and mentee relationships. 
  • Deals with conflict directly, openly, honestly, and graciously according to Matthew 18:15-20.
