The Qualifications The Pastor will meet the qualifications for overseer as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4.  He will provide kingdom leadership to the members of the church enabling them to focus on the Great Commission, and equipping them to carry out the five functions of the New Testament church: evangelism, discipleship, ministry, fellowship, and worship. He will subscribe to the Divine origin of the Scriptures and endorse the other elements of the Southern Baptist faith as outlined in the “Baptist Faith and Message” 2000 edition.  While we would consider a wide variety of candidates, our preference would be for a pastor with these qualities: -In the age range of 25 to 59 years old -At least 2-5 years of experience as a pastor or on staff with a church -The ideal candidate would have a family with school-age children -Is open to working as a bi-vocational pastor.

Van Meter Baptist Church (Van Meter, IA) Pastor   The Big Picture Van Meter Baptist Church ( is a loving Southern Baptist Church seeking a bi-vocational pastor to shepherd the flock through preaching, leading and pastoral care.   The Church We are a loving group who have been together for many years and are committed to each other as Christ directed us to be.  We want God to use us to be a witness in our town and surrounding area for His glory and for the growth of the kingdom.  Our church is one of four churches in the school district.  The other churches consist of two Methodist and one Lutheran. The churches work together for the annual Van Meter River Days celebration, Christmas gift sharing, and a joint Baccalaureate service. The government of this church is vested in the members who compose it. It is subject to the control of no other ecclesiastical body, but it recognizes and sustains the obligations of mutual counsel and cooperation which are common among Baptist Churches. The church council meets with the pastor on a regular basis to discuss and plan the activities of the church to then present the business of the church in the quarterly business meetings.
