Communications Specialist

Job Description:

We are looking for a talented Communications Specialist to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing our communication strategy by managing our visual content and coordinating creative projects. The role involves working closely with our Communications and Marketing leaders to create engaging content and design material that effectively communicates our brand message.

This is a full-time hybrid role located in Jackson, MS with some work-from-home flexibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain internal project management and organizational systems to maximize the efficiency of the team.
  • Monitor and ensure all communications activities adhere to established timelines and goals, report on the effectiveness of projects, and suggest necessary adjustments to maximize reach and impact.
  • Manage the workflow of communication and marketing projects, events, and campaigns, coordinating with external vendors as needed.
  • Create graphic design elements and layouts to support communication projects (print, social, web, email marketing, etc.) and coordinate with freelance designers on certain design projects.
  • Assist with ongoing email marketing campaign creation and execution.
  • Coordinate with different teams to gather project-related information and translate it into clear, compelling, and accurate communication materials.
  • Ability to write, revise, and edit short-form content for various communication mediums with a marketing and advertising mindset.

Position Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Have a strong understanding of how to reach a target audience through good design and creative copywriting.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with a strategic and creative mindset.
  • A pro-active, solutions-oriented approach and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proven experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in graphic design software, including Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
  • Experience in higher education or nonprofit communications is beneficial.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Design, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field
