SUMMARY:Special Lecture
DESCRIPTION:RTS Orlando is pleased to welcome Dr. Daniel Strand for a special lecture during our summer hybrid week. \nDr. Strand is Assistant Professor of Ethics at the Air War College and Ethics Chair at Air University where he teaches courses on Just War ethics\, character and virtue\, strategic leadership\, and American foreign policy. He is the author of a forthcoming book\, Gods of the Nations\, that examines Augustine of Hippos political theology in City of God. His area of academic specialty is in applied ethics\, Augustine of Hippo\, and the history of Christian moral and political thought. \nDr. Strand’s lecture is titled\, “From Domination to Liberation: Augustine‘s Critique of Roman Political Religion in City of God.” \nIn books 1-10 of City of God Augustine levels a magisterial critique of Roman civic religion and Neoplatonic religion. These religions are grounded in an account of the Roman gods and their relationship to Roman society and political order. This talk will examine these criticisms and what they can teach us about Augustine‘s political theology. \n
