During my time at RTS Orlando, I learned that the desire to be a minster is a noble calling, and an essential skill for ministry is self-awareness. You lead or minister from who you are. I appreciated my relationship with other students in my program and the faculty that was so accommodating and supportive, especially since I arrived after classes had already started.

As I was discerning a call to vocational ministry, I talked to my home church pastor, who recommended a couple of different seminaries to check out. RTS was one of them! As soon as I started exploring RTS website, I fell in love with this seminary. One of my biggest amazements was finding out that RTS online lectures were available for free! (If you haven’t heard about this, download the RTS mobile app, and you’ll have access to tons of online lectures!)

Since leaving RTS Orlando, I have been blessed to have begun the work of pastoral ministry at Grace Bible Church in Oxford, Mississippi. I have been serving here focusing on the areas of youth and college ministry, as well as the educational ministry of the church. The elders and staff pastors have been gracious as they continue to lead me in wisdom and understanding how to serve the church of Jesus Christ.

I’ve been in student ministry for over 20 years and I cannot overstate how essential RTS was in shaping my life and ministry. Passing the faith on to the next generation becomes more challenging with each passing year, but RTS equipped me with the tools to rightly handle God’s Word as I seek to teach students about the sufficiency of Scripture for each generation.

As a senior in college, I was teaching and studying the Bible with students on a regular basis within my church home and campus ministry. During this time I realized two things: The first is that the Bible is the only source of wisdom that speaks into every situation with hope and healing. The second is that I needed to know my Bible to be able to effectively speak into the lives of women. This grew an increasing desire to attend seminary after graduation.

I was already serving as a pastor of a small non-denominational congregation. I had done a fair amount of informal, advanced study on my own. I realized I needed to pursue formal, rigorous education to improve my ability to serve as pastor. I wanted to study the biblical languages and a wide array of other classes so I could improve my ability to study, interpret, and teach God's Word, and shepherd the flock under my care. Without formal training, my ability as a leader and shepherd were going to be limited, and my flock would suffer as a result.
