Master of Divinity
In keeping with the mission of Reformed Theological Seminary to equip pastor/scholars for ministry in the 21st century, RTS Houston now offers the Master of Divinity. This 106 hour degree is a rigorous program of study in three basic areas – Bible, systematic theology, and practical theology – coupled with 400 hours of field education (pastoral, missionary, campus ministry internship, or similar ministries where students are given opportunities to exercise and improve their gifts and skills with firsthand experience in the service to which God has called them).
Bible courses include the basic content of each book of the Bible along with detailed study of major characters, dates, and places as are necessary. Principles of hermeneutics and exegesis, using the original languages as well as the English bible are also included so that students will learn to apply Scripture in a contemporary context.
Building upon a biblical foundation, theology is a major area of focus. Operating from the perspective that the Bible is God’s revelation about Himself in things necessary for man’s salvation, this program of study equips students with the foundation to understand, articulate, and live, the Christian faith.
Practical theology courses are designed to enable students to develop competence in ministry including preaching, worship, leadership, and individual shepherding. A variety of experiences and instruction enable students to develop methods and styles of ministry suited to their individual gifts.
