On Tuesday, April 10th, Ligon Duncan, Senior Pastor at First Presbyterian Church and faculty at RTS Jackson, spoke at the Together for the Gospel Conference in Louisville, KY. His keynote session was entitled “The Underestimated God: God’s ruthless, compassionate grace in the pursuit of his own glory and his ministers’ joy.”
What hope is there for the pastor or minister who is disappointed and let down? We can struggle and despair in our ministry when we do not see the fruit we long for. Ligon Duncan preached from 1 Kings 19 about this very topic at Together for the Gospel. Elijah was jealous for the Lord and the people of Israel, but saw only disappointment in his work. However, 1 Kings was not the end of Elijah's story. Dr. Duncan encourages us to trust the Lord and depend on his strength as we serve in His kingdom.
