Dunson Returns Home to Teach at RTS Dallas

Reformed Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ben C. Dunson as Associate Professor of New Testament at RTS Dallas, beginning January 1, 2018.

“I could not be more delighted with the addition of Dr. Ben Dunson to the RTS family,” said Chancellor and CEO J. Ligon Duncan III. “To have a native son of Texas coming home to teach at RTS Dallas will be a blessing to him and us. Ben is a serious, humble, and gifted scholar who loves the church. He is also a superb biblical studies professor fully conversant with confessional Reformed Systematic Theology — a hallmark of RTS. Our students are going to love him! I know his colleagues will too.”

Before joining RTS, Dunson served at Grace Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Stuart, Florida. He was raised in Texas and completed his undergraduate degree in political science at Texas A&M University in 2002. He then received an M.A.R. (Biblical Studies) and a Th.M. (New Testament) at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA. He earned his Ph.D. in New Testament from the University of Durham (2011). From 2011-12 he was Sessional Assistant Professor of Religion and Theology at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada teaching New Testament courses, and from 2013-2016 he was Assistant Professor of New Testament at Reformation Bible College in Sanford, Florida.

“I am absolutely thrilled that Ben is joining us in Dallas,” said Mark McDowell, Executive Director and Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology at RTS Dallas. “Not only does Ben bring a great deal of teaching experience to us, but he also offers pastoral instincts that will be a tremendous help for our students. He is a New Testament professor with keen theological sensibilities, and so embodies the rich legacy of biblical studies professors at RTS. This is a wonderful appointment and I am convinced he will be a blessing to our seminary in Dallas.”

Dunson’s scholarly work has appeared in the Westminster Theological Journal, Puritan Reformed Journal, Journal for the Study of the New Testament, and elsewhere. He also contributed to the Baker Illustrated Bible Dictionary and Tabletalk Magazine. His book Individual and Community in Paul’s Letter to the Romans is published in the prestigious WUNT series. Dunson is married to Martha, whom he met at Texas A&M while they were attending the same PCA church. They have four sons.
