(Charlotte, NC) – June 1, 2018
Reformed Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. James N. Anderson as Professor of Theology and Philosophy at RTS Charlotte beginning June 1, 2018.
James earned a Ph.D. in Philosophical Theology from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and completed an M.A. in Philosophy and Apologetics at Trinity Theological Seminary in Newburgh, Indiana. His doctoral thesis at the University of Edinburgh explored the paradoxical nature of certain Christian doctrines and the implications for the rationality of Christian faith. His research and writing have also focused on the presuppositionalism of Cornelius Van Til, particularly his advocacy of the transcendental argument. Dr. Anderson has a longstanding concern to bring the Reformed theological tradition into greater dialogue with contemporary analytic philosophy. Prior to pursuing theological studies, Dr. Anderson earned his first Ph.D. in Computer Simulation from the University of Edinburgh in addition to a B.Eng. (Hons.) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Dr. Michael Kruger, President of RTS Charlotte, commented on James’s role at RTS, “James Anderson has been such a blessing to us here at RTS Charlotte. Not only is he is one of the brightest minds in philosophical theology today and a gifted communicator, but he has the rare ability to distill complex information into a form that the average person in the pew can understand. The way he bridges the academy and the church is the ideal combination for a seminary professor.”
James will continue in his position as the Academic Dean for both RTS Global Education and RTS New York City. He is a member of the Society of Christian Philosophers, the British Society for the Philosophy of Religion, and the Evangelical Philosophical Society. In addition, James is an ordained minister in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and previously served in Scotland as an assistant pastor at the historic Charlotte Chapel in Edinburgh. He and his wife Catriona have three children.
The RTS Charlotte campus has become a national and international training ground for pastors, missionaries, educators, and leaders in the church.
