Women in Ministry
Women in Ministry (WiM) is a ministry for all women affiliated with RTS that provides fellowship, fosters connection to the broader seminary community, equips each woman to build the kingdom in her respective calling, and encourages women to live passionately in submission to Christ.
WiM provides opportunities for connection through Bible studies and process groups, retreats, seminars, and fellowship events. We encourage the wives of students to take advantage of the spouse scholarship and enroll in or audit classes as they are able. Our hope is that all women will come away from seminary having experienced meaningful relationships and spiritual growth.
Freedom in the Fishbowl: Ministry Wives Gatherings “Joy & Sacrifice: Following God’s Call”
Mondays 7 – 9pm | Nov 10 | Sweeting Home
Join Christina Sweeting (current student and wife of Don Sweeting, RTSO President) and Leigh Swanson (Associate Dean of Students and wife of David Swanson, Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando) for an honest conversation about the blessings and challenges of being the wife of a pastor. Our special guest will be Elizabeth Schenkel.
For 22 years Elizabeth served in the Boston area as a pastor’s wife and elementary schoolteacher alongside her husband, Erick. During that time Erick enrolled in the PhD program in the Study of Religion at Harvard University. As he studied both the history of missions in the United States and also by requirement, Islamic studies, both Erick and Elizabeth felt a call to minister in the Muslim world.
In response to that call, in 1996 they moved with four of their five children to Tashkent, Uzbekistan. They remained in Uzbekistan for ten years planting churches alongside CCC student ministry and Jesus Film teams. After they were expelled from that country in 2006, they spent one year in Almaty, Kazakhstan. In 2007, they moved to France to take up area wide responsibilities with CCC in the North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. The summer of 2011, they moved to Istanbul, Turkey to continue that work. In 2012, Erick and Elizabeth relocated to Orlando so that Erick could take over leadership of the Jesus Film Project.
While in Europe and Turkey and to the present in Florida, Elizabeth has been working alongside and now within the Film Production department of the Jesus Film Project to develop, produce, and oversee the use of the Rivka series of follow-up films for women in the Muslim world and beyond.
