Degree Program Assessment

For each degree program, RTS has identified student learning outcomes (SLOs), uses both direct and indirect measures to assess the extent to which these outcomes are achieved, and shows evidence of improvement. This degree program assessment process is performed by the campus faculties and managed by the Academic Dean Committee, which consists of the Provost and CAO, the Chief Institutional Assessment Officer, and the campus academic deans. The degree program assessment process occurs on an annual basis with evaluation of individual degree programs occurring biennially.

Direct and indirect measures include, among other things, juried reviews of student academic research papers, entering and graduating student questionnaires, job placement statistics, and pass rates for presbytery ordination examinations. For each SLO and specific measure, RTS has chosen the criteria for success to be 80% or 90%.

Based on the above, the faculty and deans came to a variety of assessment conclusions. Each RTS Academic Dean then makes official recommendations for curricular and degree program improvement. Some of these recommendations will be areas of growth and needed improvement. Others will be strengths to be sustained. An Assessment summary is compiled for each degree program by each campus Academic Dean. These summaries are reported to the Provost Office.

For AY 2016-17, the MDiv and DMin degree programs at every RTS campus was assessed individually. Overall, all programs met the criteria for success. However, minor adjustments were instituted for several degree programs.

For an enumeration of the MDiv student learning outcomes for assessment purposes, see Student Learning Outcomes - MDiv.

Placement Rates

RTS keeps records of job placement statistics for every year per campus per degree program (DMin students are not included because they are already in ministry positions, per admissions requirements.)

The following table summarizes the placement stats per degree program for the whole institution. These cover academic year 2015-2016 and give the percent of graduates that were placed within six months of graduating among those that were seeking ministry positions.

Graduation Rates

The following table presents graduation rates for each degree program for all RTS campuses combined, including distance education degree programs. Graduation rates for the MDiv and DMin degree programs are based on a six-year time frame to graduate. Graduation rates for the MA degree programs are based on a four-year time frame to graduate.
