Dr. Larry Shyers serves as a Guest Lecturer in Counseling and regularly teaches the core counseling course Professional, Ethical & Legal Studies at RTS-Orlando.
Dr. Shyers is a licensed mental health counselor and approved clinical supervisor who has run a private counseling practice in Mount Dora, Florida, since 1980. He also teaches counseling courses at the University of Central Florida and Palm Beach Atlantic University. Dr. Shyers specializes in ethics related to counseling practice and served for eight years on the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling, six of which as Board Chairman. He currently serves on Probable Cause Panel for this Board, which addresses reports of ethical impropriety among licensed mental health professionals. Dr. Shyers regularly conducts various workshops for licensed professionals, churches and foster care workers throughout the U.S.
Dr. Shyers is a member of multiple professional organizations and was named the 1994-1995 Counselor of the Year by the American Mental Health Counselors Association.
Dr. Shyers and his wife have two grown children.
