Fall Semester Underway

Our fall semester is officially underway here at RTS Jackson.

At Orientation on Tuesday, August 21, we welcomed a diverse group of new students to join our community, including those who began the MDIV program this summer with Summer Hebrew in the Summer Institute of Biblical Languages.  Nationally, these students were from AL, AR, FL, GA, IL, KS, LA, MA, MD, MO, MS, NC, NH, NY, OH, OR, SC, TN, TX, VA, WA and WY.  Internationally, new students joined our community from Kenya, China, Korea, Mexico, India, Ireland, Jamaica, and Portugal.  As the African American Leadership Initiative officially begins this fall, we welcomed nine new students on the AALI scholarship.
On Wednesday, August 22, Ligon Duncan spoke at RTS Jackson’s forty-seventh Convocation.  His address was entitled “The Case for Classic Covenant Theology” and can be found here.  It was a masterful address on how the doctrine of Covenant Theology works its way into our doctrine and into our lives.

On Saturday, August 25, the Student Cabinet hosted our annual fall kick-off social, the Luau.  There were about 150 students who participated in the event.  That morning, Women in Ministry hosted a welcome brunch for all of the new ladies on campus.  Student life is also off to a good start with respect to athletics, as Thursday soccer (or “futbol” to our international students), Friday basketball, and the occasional tennis or racquetball match are in full swing.

Left to Right: (1) The Women in Ministry brunch brings student wives and female students together. (2) Students enjoy lunch at Orientation the first week of class. (3) The Luau was great fun, with live music, limbo, and plenty of pulled pork.
